Admission requirements:
Possession of a Senior Certificate is a requirement for admission, with an assessment and interview.

Job opportunities:
With this qualification you can pursue a career as a Day Care Manager, Child Care Teacher Assistant, Pre-School Teacher, Au Pair or entrepreneur.

Course Content:
Students complete three certificates (N4-N6) and 18 months of in-service training, at the end of which a Diploma in Educare is awarded. The course structure is laid out so that you can follow a stream that suits your requirement. The subjects for the various streams are as follows:

Educare Didactics (Theory and Practical) N4
Education N4
Child Health N4

Day Care Communication N5
Educare Didactics (Theory and Practical) N5
Educational Psychology N5
Entrepreneurship and Business Management N4

Day Care Communication N6
Educare Didactics (Theory and Practical) N6
Educational Psychology N6
Day Care Management N6

Each level takes 6 Months full time to complete (total of 18 months to complete the theory) and then 18 months practical. Generally it takes 3 years to qualify for a National Diploma.

A National N Diploma in Educare is awarded on successful completion of this programme.

Part Time

This programme is offered on a part time basis at Khayelitsha Campus

Level 5 National Diploma in ECD (Qualification number 64650), offered at Khayelitsha campus.

Entry requirements:

  • A Higher certificate in ECD Level 5.
  • Offered on a learnership bases, students must be employed at an ECD centre to meet the funding requirements.
  • Must work a minimum of 24 hours per/week and attend classes once a week.

Duration: 18 month long
